Cloud and Desktop editions
Diegetic Terminals and Diegetic Databases share one plan: a Cloud subscription or a one-time Desktop host license. Cloud runs in the browser with a 14-day free trial and Basic/Pro plans after that; Desktop runs on your Windows PC with no monthly fees. Players never need a subscription or license to join either way.
This page compares Cloud Edition (monthly subscription, we host for you) and Desktop Edition (one-time purchase, you host locally) . Review the edition cards below, see the full cloud plan table, or read common questions if you are not sure which fits your table.

Common questions
Cloud Edition
What happens when my free trial ends?
If you haven't subscribed to Basic or Pro, your account is locked: you keep your data, but can't open or edit your terminals until you subscribe. If you don't subscribe within 14 days of your trial ending, your account and terminal data are automatically deleted. You can upgrade at any time from your dashboard, or try the Desktop Edition for a one-time purchase.
Can I upgrade or downgrade at any time?
Yes. Upgrades take effect immediately. Downgrades between Basic and Pro apply at the end of your current billing period. Cancelling locks your account at the end of your billing period rather than downgrading you to a lesser plan.
Will I lose my terminals if I cancel?
Not right away. Your terminal data is preserved while your account is locked, but locked accounts that stay inactive for 30 days are automatically deleted along with their terminals. Subscribe again before then to reopen and edit your terminals.
Is there a difference between the Cloud and Desktop editions?
Yes. The Cloud Edition is hosted by us, so there is nothing to install, it stays up to date, and it is accessible from any browser. The Desktop Edition runs on your own Windows PC: buy once, no monthly fees, terminal data stays on your machine. Both editions share the same account system.
Do you offer annual billing or team plans?
We currently offer monthly billing only. Contact support@terminal.tiesthatbindgaming.com if you have specific requirements.
What payment methods are accepted?
All major credit and debit cards via Stripe. We do not store any payment details on our servers.
Desktop Edition
Do I need an internet connection to run sessions?
No. Once activated, the app works fully offline on your local network. An internet connection is only needed to activate your license and for players joining remotely.
How do remote players connect?
Players open a browser tab and connect to your local address. For players on the same Wi-Fi this works automatically. For remote players, you forward port 5188 on your router or use a free tool like ngrok to share a public URL instantly. VPS hosting or VPN on the host can break local Wi-Fi links; use a public URL for everyone in those cases. See the connection guide for details.
What happens when there is an update?
The app notifies you when a new version is available. Download the latest installer from this page; your terminal data carries over automatically.
Can I download the app without buying a license?
Yes. Anyone can download the desktop app and use it as a client to connect to a host session. A license is only required if you want to host sessions from your own machine.
Windows shows a security warning when I run it.
This is normal for unsigned apps. Click "More info" then "Run anyway." The app is safe; we are working on code signing for a future release.
Can I still use the cloud version?
Yes. The Desktop Edition and the cloud subscription are separate products. Your existing account and terminals remain available on the cloud.
Why pay $29.99 for Desktop instead of cloud?
Cloud is great if you want us to host everything: plans start at $2.99/month with tier limits on terminals, databases, and storage. Desktop is one payment for the GM: unlimited terminals and databases, local files you control, and no recurring bill. Players never need a subscription or license either way; only the person hosting pays.
